The B&W gooseneck is one of the best hitches on the market. When it was introduced, it revolutionized the gooseneck hitch industry. Most other hitches at that time were a fixed ball in the bed which made it hard to haul large flat loads. Other turnover balls you have to lift a big heavy plate and fold the ball under. With the B&W you pull a spring-loaded lever in the driver's side wheel well. It releases the lock in the ball, you crawl in the bed flip over the ball, and then relatch it. You can go from pulling a trailer to hauling plywood or drywall in as little as 30 seconds.
The gooseneck hitch is mounted on the frame over the rear axle. A 4inch hole is drilled in the bed to accept the hitch sleeve that the ball mounts in. Everything is then bolted together. Some trucks have to have holes drilled in the frame to have the mounting bolts inserted. Some use the holes that are already in the frame. My 1997 F-250HD had to have holes drilled in the frame to accept the 1 1/2-inch mounting bolts.
